For a single-vehicle business, a robbery means a week without deliveries, orders that fall and the procedure with the insurer on top. That's why it's worth reading the latest report from the Chilean Insurance Association, which brings good news and bad news.
The good one: the total goes down
Between January and June 2026, 5,851 vehicles were stolen, 15.8% less than in the first half of 2025. It is the third consecutive annual decrease: 7,237 in 2023, 6,979 in 2024, 6,948 in 2025. In June there were 796 cases, the lowest monthly figure of the year, about 27 vehicles per day.
The association also reported 631 vehicles ordered for theft recovered in the semester thanks to the reading of patents in more than 280 municipalities.
The bad one: the vans are still up.

That the total down says nothing about the risk of a specific model, and two of the first three are work trucks. We also have to read it with a limitation: the report only has insured vehicles, which are about 32.3% of the national park. How many robberies there are in total cannot be estimated from this data.
What's in your hands
No device prevents a robbery. What changes the result is how long it takes you to react and what information you have when you do. A location record does not prevent you from taking the vehicle, but it does allow you to say at what time and where you last moved, which is the first thing Carabineros and the insurer ask for.
Have this ready today, not the day of the robbery.
